He was one of the best parts of the whole movie, hahaha. So yeah, I guess I'll start looking into making an Iceborg costume! When/where are you guys planning on wearing these?

I'll be wearing mine to Fanime again, and Expo if I can actually make it. Isn't Comicon crazy expensive?

I've never actually been myself, but if we start planning now, we can probably offset the vast majority of the costs.

Spent a little more time sculpting tonight. I'm way more happy with tonight's work than last night. I'm actually going to keep this one. I decided to do something out of my imagination instead of looking at a reference, so I just started shaping the clay and this is what I ended up with. I added the mustache because MUSTACHES ARE AWESOME. Attachments:

It looks like you're getting better already! Sculpting could be crazy useful for cosplaying; any ideas floating around yet?

That looks great, Adam! You have a darn good grasp of facial anatomy, especially for a beginner. You want to take a look at some of my anatomy art books to study up a bit? I find studying them (and constant review) to be very very helpful, especially when working from your imagination rather than a reference.
Augh, you're making me want to try out sculpting again. Maybe in a couple of months...I have too many artistic hobbies and work to have time right now. Damn I wish I had the power to freeze time!

Oh! I forgot to tell you about the smoothing technique I used to use. Wet your hands in water and gently rub along the area you want to smooth until a kind of slick film of watered down clay (it's called slip, and it's really useful for attaching one piece of soft clay to another along with some hatch marks) covers it. Don't get it too wet though! Then you can (still gently!) keep up the pressure, kind of like giving a massage, and focusing on the bumpy bits. If you do it right, the rises will be pushed into the dips, and you can get a really smooth, clean area.

So apparently playing a blu ray disables my screen capture ability, both in the software (power dvd because neither vlc nor media player classic plays blu ray yet), and when doing the normal printscreen button on the key board. This makes screen shots much more difficult. I would rather not have to take photos of my screen with my camera. Anyone know a good way around this?

WOAH! Posts!
Regarding the ZF-1. That gun is the promised land of prop construction. I've seen entire threads on movie prop forums trying to decode what every part of the thing actually was made from.
So, yeah. Let's build it.

Tonight's sculpting. I decided that since I had done two bald guys, it was time to make an attempt at a girl with hair. So here it is. In other news, as the head from last night has started to dry, and unfortunately the mustache has fallen off. I decided to wait till it's totally dry, and then try to glue it on, or something. Anyway, tonight's attempt. Attachments:

As I mentioned earlier, one of the main costumes that I am planning for next year is Chris Redfield from Resident Evil 5. But there is a problem with this. I am shaped like a nerd, where as Redfield is shaped like a tank made out of meat. This means that if I am going to do this costume the justice it deserves, I need to get into shape! (This is going to be helpful for my zoro costume as well, as I am planning on doing something shirtless, and want to have a body to justify going shirtless.) To this end, I have been exercising pretty hard since April, and intend to continue doing so. I figure that i want to have this costume done in time for Halloween, so that means that starting tomorrow, I will have 100 days left to become hellza ripped (which is the technical term). Over the last 3 and a half months, i have only lost about 6 lbs, but I have been focused almost exclusively on building bulk, so the fact that I have lost weight at all is remarkable. I am going to need to trim up a bit though, and to that end I am going to try to add swimming 20-30 lengths of the pool in the morning before going to work, and continue with my weightlifting after I get off of work. I have discovered that the best way to get into shape is to work out with other people. That's not possible for everyone, and some of us can't afford a gym, so for anyone that wants to play along, I will start posting my workouts here. If you want to try to keep up, go for it! (One last tip: Costco sells boxes of chocolate protein drinks from Premier Nutrition that actually taste pretty good, are fairly cheep, and don't need to be refrigerated. Drinking a protein drink within 10 minutes of ending your workout will not only help dramatically in muscle production, but will also eliminate the majority of soreness. It also keeps your body from being protein starved after a workout, which goes a LONG way toward curbing hunger. I never understood how important protein was until I started using it. Get some.)

Regarding the BAMF gun- I have access to random little things like wires, LEDs, and just random stuff you might find in machines, such as plastic tubes and metal rods and whatnot. If there'd be use for any of that stuff let me know :]

Ok, so upon completion of my workout tonight, I realized that every exercise I did requires a machine. Maybe not the best workout plan if everyone doesn't want to join a huge gym. But I will at least list out what I did here. Part 1: (do A and B 2 times, as in ABAB.) A) Assisted pullups at 40 lbs under my current weight. 6 wide grip, 6 standard grip, and 6 forward grip. B) Iso Row at 125 lbs on each side. 6 on upper handles, 6 on lower handles, 6 on center handles Interlude (core torso exercise) Using the cable cross machine, I stand sideways, and pull from low to high, using my abs for the rotation power. 3 sets of 8 on each side. youtu.be/FyoujOiRe28Part 2 (Do A and B 2 times, as in ABAB) A) Horizontal towel grip pull up, which looks like this: youtu.be/cNRQXwzLYLYexcept I put my feet on an exercise ball, and i hold a towel with both hands. Way fucking harder. 3 sets of 8. B) Burnouts on bar curls. This is where you start with the heaviest weight you can lift, lift it as many times as you can, and when you just can't lift it anymore you put it back and immediately grab the next weight down and continue until you can't do that one, grab the next one, and so on. I started at 65 lbs. This is where you hope that some cute girl doesn't walk by just as you are finishing up, and are struggling like crazy to lift the 15 lbs bar. Second Interlude: Rotary Torso Machine. I do 3 sets of 8 on each side. youtu.be/xVCceRCz5cUPart 3: I was really tired and didn't do part three tonight. But it would have been pull downs: And a wrist exercise where you twist the bar, rotating in your hands so that the rope reals up onto it. So that's my pullers day. I did pushers yesterday (all different exercises) and should do legs tomorrow, but my tailbone is still all messed up from hockey, so i will probably just take the day off. I realize that this is all probably totally useless since most of us don't belong to a gym, let alone one with all this equipment. But if you guys want I will write up a program that will only require investing $30 or $40 that you can do at home. Let me know what you think!
