Cut out the trigger and bought the metallic fabric I am using for the body of the gun. I also bought some black mesh to put down the side of the shirt, but it don't want to use it. It will work if I don't find something better, but i REALLY hope to find something better. It's so thin that it's barely visible against the black fabric. Once I start putting the fabric on the gun, i will post some more photos. It's sort of a silvery gray, which I think will look really good once it's done, but for now just draped over the form, it looks like a gun shaped prom dress. heh.

All right, finished cutting the details into the gun, and did some initial experiments with how the cloth with take the glue, and I am very happy to report that it looks great! No noticeable seepage! We also figured out how to do the cylinder. It's not going to rotate, which totally bums me out, but I made the gun too thick, so a rotating cylinder would literally be nested inside the body of the gun, and would look WAY too small. Instead it's going to be domed out on each side to simulate the look. Not perfect, but it will still look great, and will be about 10 times easier to make. PROGRESS! I'm hoping to start gluing the cloth on tonight, and will post some more photos when I do.

I got the cloth for the main part of the gun cut out, but couldn't find my pins, so I couldn't really start gluing last night. I found them now though, so tonight I glue! The photos I took don't really show anything worthwhile, so I will take some tonight once it's pinned and starting to look like a proper gun.

I actually got most of it glued already, I will take a photo once all the cloth is glued on. I bought almost everything I need to finish it too, I am just having trouble finding a good black textured cloth to use for the pistol grip. But the gun is only about 2 afternoons of work away from being done, and that's a good feeling! Attachments:

Good news! New apartment is mine! And in it, I finally have room to set up a work space for costume stuff! I'm very stoked! Which is why every sentence in this post ends in an exclamation point! WOOO!

Whats that? you think that 3 weeks without an update is too long? I agree! Sadly, I have made very little progress on any costume in the last few weeks, all of my free time has been dedicated to moving/working/settling in. But that doesn't mean that I have stopped planning costume stuff. For example, a costume I would really like to do for next year is Wan Shi Tong, the Owl spirit from avatar. I think that this would be a fantastic and fun costume, and one that even people who had not seen avatar would enjoy.

So to be honest, I have been sort of burned out on cosplay lately. But I am happy to report that I feel reinvigorated after Fanime! And it wasn't seeing all the amazing costumes there that did it for me, it was when I got to help my room mates finish their costumes in the hotel room, and then feeling the satisfaction of walking around with them and people asking to take their photos. It felt awesome. So yeah, totally going to get Kuma ready to go again. and going to finish Chris Redfield in time for comic con. This is going to be awesome!

One of the main things I have been doing to get ready for totally awesome cosplay is focusing on getting my body into the shape I want it to be in for my characters. I may not have been doing much actual sewing, but I still consider working out to be part of working on cosplay. That being said, sometimes when you have been working out for a long time, it starts to get hard to see that you are making progress, as it comes slower and slower as you get in better shape. During those times, it's good to have someone take a photo of you from a different angle, as it lets you see that yes, you are making progress. That happened to me last week when Emlee took a photo of my back while I was doing pullups after a dip in the jacuzzi. I had no idea that I was actually getting back muscles since I can't see my back, but i'm REALLY happy with how my back looks. Now, if I can just get that definition in the rest of my body..... On the cosplay.com forums there is a huge thread dedicated to getting fit for cosplay. It's pretty cool to read everyone's success stories and get inspired by it. We should start a thread like that here! I'm not proud to admit that I've gained a good 30 lbs since I moved to Washington, which kind of freaked me out because my weight had been stable for the last 12 years or so. But I'm getting older and my metabolism is probably slowing down and I eat terrible food. So now that I'm earning money again, I'm finally going to join a gym. Reading about you (a real person that I actually know) showing progress is great motivation to get off my lazy butt ^_^;;
On the cosplay front, also now that I have income again I'm finally going to finish one of my dream costumes: Ramza's black spiky armor of doom from Final Fantasy Tactics.
