I am currently actively working on a group of costumes for myself:
-Chris Redfield (Resident Evil 5) (will be done for Halloween) -Korben Dallas (Fifth Element) -Fuu (Samurai Champloo) (Yes, I'm serious) -Zoro (One Piece) (not sure which version yet) -Batou (Ghost in the Shell) (not sure which version yet)
I am also working on some costumes for other people:
-Laboon (One Piece) [for Garrett] -Ruby Rhod (Fifth Element) [for J.] -Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg (Fifth Element) [For Chris]
Costumes I'm working on for the future, which means they are mostly just concepts and ideas, no money or serious time investments yet:
-Nosferatu Zodd (Berserk) (doing the fully transformed version, wings and all, planning on making it about 12 feet tall) -Bartholomew Kuma re-make (One Piece) -Something from Mass Effect 3 -Gordon Freeman HEV Suit (Half-Life 2)
So here is my thinking: every couple days I will post an update here on what I am working on, preferably with pictures. If I can't get them to post here, I'll upload them to our cosplay.com profile.
Ask questions, post comments, pitch ideas, whatever! I would love for this to become a very active thread.

Made a paper prototype of the Hand Cannon from Resident Evil 5. I decided to go for this gun since it's so ridiculous. I found out which real life gun the one in the game is based off of (Thank you Gary) and it's dimensions, and then printed out a picture in the proper scale from photo shop. I will use this as reference to start building my actual prop gun. But yeah, not a trick of perspective, this gun is freaking huge. Attachments:

Ok, not technically a cosplay thing, but it's kinda related. I made a 15 inch diamater hockey puck pillow with the redwings logo on it for a friend's birthday, and I'm really happy with how it came out. I'll post a photo when I get to the office.

2 questions. How did you do the print on the Red Wings pillow? What do you intend to build the hand cannon out of?

I picked up a red fabric paint pen from Jo-Ann's, which was like $3.50, and then printed out the logo on paper, taped a piece of white felt to the paper, and put it on an overhead projector. I then traced the logo with the paint pen. It came out looking great, but be careful with the stuff, it is very wet and spready (not a real word) at first. Once it was dry and I heat set it though, it looked and felt great. Not the best stuff for super fine detail, but for bigger stuff it's awesome.
As for the hand cannon, I have not decided yet. I just printed out the paper version to get an idea for the scale, but I was actually really surprised how good it looked in the photo, and am now thinking about just doing it that way. Like, get the shape cut out of a few layers thick of card board, and then print out the two sides and a a top and bottom shot, and glue it all together.
I will probably end up going way over the top and making something ridiculous, but I should just make it out of paper. I'm going to look at shoes a bit tonight, see if I can find something that will work for my Chris Redfield costume.

Full Parts List for my Chris Redfield Costume. I find it's a good idea to make one of these up when ever you embark on a new costume. It really helps to keep things organized.

Started looking for shoes, not having much luck. Please take a look at the reference photo that I put up a few posts back. If you see a shoe that looks similar, please let me know it's brand and where you saw it! It can be the correct colors, or just white. I can add dye if it's just white.

So I was doing the calf raise machine at the gym yesterday, and the weight on my shoulder left a mark, and I was like "IDEA!" Because of the excessive weight, the pads on the equipment pinch your shoulders, and basically give you straight line hickeys. They are a dark red-ish purple, and last for a few days. So i'm thinking, Zoro's scar! I just need to figure out a good way to create suction in a straight thin line, and I can give myself a clear, nice looking effect across my chest without having to worry about reapplying it each day of the convention, or having it rub off on my costume! Any ideas for making a device that can do this? Attachments:

Decided today that I am going to learn how to sculpt. I feel that this will make it easier to make things exactly how I want them to look, and then be able to take casts and make molds. I'm pretty excited about this. New Artistic outlet! Also, I am going to take another photo of my shoulder tonight to see how the marking from the previous post is looking after a few days. To my eyes it still looks really good, but I won't know for sure until I compare.

So this is my very first attempt at sculpting. I clearly have ALOT to learn. But what ever. I had avatar: the last air bender playing on the tv when I started playing with the clay, so I decided to make an attempt at Aang's head. Ok, so it's the stuff of nightmares, and the proportions are completely off, but I am not totally unhappy with my first attempt. I figure each night I will try to spend half an hour and make something, and anything that I like I will post a photo off. So any suggestions on what I should attempt to sculpt next? Attachments:

Alright, so here is a comparison shot. 4 days have passed between photos, but the lines still show up pretty good. I think this idea is really going to work! Now to make a thin, oval shaped funnel device with a hose on the end so I can give myself very specific hickeys in a straight line. Got to admit, that was one of the weirdest sentences I have ever written. Attachments:

I think this is a good idea, but wouldn't there be a way to paint it on? I know Ben Nye has a bruise palette (http://www.facepaint.com/special-effect-makeup/ben-nye-bruise-wheel-ew-4-1-oz-28-gm-2167-93-p.html) with some colors that I think would work exceptionally well. In addition to that, there's fixer for body and spray paints, and if you're attempting to do Zoro with the scar, that would be assuming he would be shirtless, yes? In this case, I don't think you'd have to worry about fabric rubbing against the scar and rubbing it off, and the fixer should take care of the general stretching of skin and any sweat or moisture you might encounter. Pluuus, you can taper it out and tweak it to look exactly the way you'd want it to. Just my two cents :]

Hey now, for a first go that sculpture is really good! We need to hang out sometime soo so I can show you some techniques and stuff. It's been a while since I've done anything at all with clay, but I probably have a bit of knowledge to share.
On another note, When I found out you guys were doing a Fifth Element cosplay group I immediately wanted to join in. Of course. I miss doing group stuff with you guys! I think Plava Laguna would be fun, and a lot easier than my first idea, which was Aknot. What do you think?
Also, you need a Leeloo.
