Wandered across this thread when surfing the internet for cosplay porn I was at work, and it's pretty awesome. And inspiring! It's HUGE, but give it a look if you have some time. www.halforums.com/xenforo/threads/good-cosplay-thread-pt3-the-pros-of-cons.21897/In other news, did some brain storming with eric and kevin last night, came up with some ideas on how to build the framework for the giant gun. The plan I settled on is for once the most straight forward one, and I'm a little proud of that.

The gun is finally moving out of prototype stage! I'm going to cut out 2 guns from this foam, and then glue them together, with the pvc pipe running the length of the gun for support, and then turning at 45 degrees to go into the handle, where I will cut a hole in the back of the foam for my hand to slip in and grasp the pvc pipe. I may add a weight to the handle as well to off set the barrel and make it easier to hold. The pvc pipe will also be acting as the axle for the cylinder, which will totally actually spin. hehe, thanks! Also, looking at this photo, I'm just now noticing that the trigger on my gun will be about the same size as the coffee mug handle, and I'm proud of that fact.

I'm starting to think that maybe I ought to try making these giant, con friendly weapons and props on commission...

Cut out the gun halves tonight with the helpful help of eric and kevin! It's only now that I am holding it in my hand that I truly appreciate the insanity of this project, and it's only made me more excited! Please excuse the PVC pipe sticking out (it hasn't been cut yet) and please excuse the slight drooping (it's hard to keep a gun this big aroused (naw, actually, there is no real support in it yet, it's only held together by a strip of plastic wrap near the end)). Progress continues! Th next step is to bring a heat gun and shape the handle piece of PVC so that it has a curve to it and stays in the foam body. Then cut out the channel for it, then glue this whole monster together!
Also, Eric put a poker in the fire place till it was hot, and then pressed the end into a scrap piece of foam, and where ever the hot poker touched just turned into smoke, it was awesome! And will be VERY useful if we want to carve fine detail into something. Something like a new head for Bartholomew Kuma.....

last night we used the heat gun to soften the pvc pipe and put a slight bend in it so it will fit inside the handle instead of sticking out like it does in the above photo. I also carved out the channel for it, and cut out a space in the back of the foam handle for my hand to slip in and hold the frame. The next steps are to sand the pipe so it has a little texture, and then gluing it all together, then trimming the outside, making the handle a little wider, covering it in cloth, making the cylinder, and taking it to a convention! Hooray for progress! And 5 months before I need it done too, thats a new record for me.

Alright, the two halves are officially glued to the frame! And with the hand hole cut out, the gun can finally be held the way it's meant to be held, and damn it feels good! My next step is to find a bigger hot glue gun, glue all the sides together, trim the whole thing up, cut out the details, and cover it with cloth. Then I just make the cylinder, and the gun will be done. Attachments:

I washed the green fabric with the white fabric this morning, hoping that that the white would pick up a little bit of the green tint, just to sort of reinforce the green showing through, but no dice. This fabric does not like to pick up dye! Oh well, the original plan will still work great, and I have a shirt that I am using for a pattern. Progress! I will put up more photos soon.
