My new location in the frozen north has offered me the unique opportunity to go to Penny Arcade Expo this year.
I know a few of us are flying up to see the show. Anybody else planning on coming up?

PAX POST-GAME(with appropriate music): [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHkEZuoi1b4 ] PANELS: I attended at least one event a day I was glad of having gone to. For instance, the panels on gamer marketing and writing for games journalism / publicity were fascinating to me. Industry professionals openly relating their experiences on the language and structure of how the gaming public is informed of new product was almost worth staying through the Q & A session for. Almost. PLAY: The two games I got hands-on with revealed that Lollipop Chainsaw = No More Heroes + Bayonetta, and Asura's Wrath is God Hand of War. Plus I watched Garrett play Sonic Generations, so I guess that counts? It looks as though Sega may have finally fixed all their previous attempts to 'fix' the series, but the real playtest will be to see if anyone actually gives a shit. The lines for things like ME3 & Arkham City scared me right out of waiting for them, but there are certain things I wish I'd tried. I utterly forgot about the 2D Bloodrayne game coming out (which looks quite good)! Personally, my biggest surprise game-wise was Super MNC, the free to play sequel to the 3rd person TF2-ish Monday Night Combat [ youtu.be/319RXdha-Ig ]. PEOPLE: If nothing else, I’m going to PAX next year for the Celebrity D & D game. Talking and taking pictures with Jerry "Tycho" Holkins later only boosted the surreal joy of the experience. Also was starstruck by the Femshep from this awesome Mass Effect cosplay group [ youtu.be/vi63jsjQIHo ] handing out inflatable Omniblades at the BioWare booth!* Went to the Asura's Wrath screaming booth (break 100 decibels & win a chance at a drawing for a $300 Amazon certificate) despite the onset of post-drinking singing hoarseness and was beaten by a barely 10-year-old Batgirl. Speaking of drinking, the Harry Potter-themed barcrawl was WAY more fun than I thought it'd be. Come to think of it, I believe I was sober for only one night of the trip. FINAL SCORE: To everyone that didn’t make it, you should come. To everyone that did, let’s go again! Now that we know there’s a liquor store and bars within walking distance I’ll probably have a lot more fun next year. Meeting up with lots of people I hadn’t seen in ages ensures that I’ll get myself at least a day pass for next year. * Which reminds me, Elisia; when you have time I'd really like that pic of her stabbing me in the neck.

So, yeah. What J said.
Things to add...
The friday night concert. Only showed up to see Metroid Metal and the Minibosses. Had to sit through MC Frontalot and Video Game Orchestra to do so. Frontalot is decidedly not my thing, but VGO were a pleasant surprise. As suspected, the bands I came for were both great. Got to meet members of both of those bands on sunday. Grant Henry was touched to hear that I was such a big fan.
As mentioned, Acquisitions inc. was definitely the highlight of the show. I'm really hoping that it starts a trend of D&D as a spectator sport. Jerry voiced his displeasure at the lack of audience participation at this year's game. Hopefully they will fix that in future games.
Tiny thing of interest: While Croteam was not on the floor this year, a computer company that was showing off their hardware at their booth had an early build of Serious Sam 3 running on one of their rigs. Not advertised. I would have missed it if I hadn't walked by. That game is in such early stages that it is basically unplayable, but it looks promising.
Maybe more tiny points to come, as I remember them.
In conclusion, PAX is the largest group of friends I had never met previously. My thanks to all my gamer brethren who helped make my first PAX so memorable.
