Ok. Where to begin.
A certain indie game called "The Desolate Hope" has been collecting dust on my desktop for a while now. I just cracked it open today and...
Well, it's good. I can say that I've enjoyed it immensely without any doubt. Trying to explain it is gonna be a doozy, though.
Here goes.
So, you are an A.I. designed for gaming that was left on a computer on a completely autonomous space station that was built on some planet far from earth. You see, earth launched a series of automated ships that would land on planets, build these bases, and start running simulations to see if the planet was habitable.
You are awakened by a coffee machine, who tells you that supplies and transmissions have stopped coming from earth, for whatever reason. The station can sustain itself, but viruses have started showing up in the simulations. So, if the software and hardware want to survive on their own, they have to cooperate to purge the viruses.
So, in short, you are a videogame program, inhabiting a coffeemaker, and hacking into software simulations, trying to kill viruses.
When you're walking around on the ship as the coffee machine, it's an adventure game. You talk to the other ship systems, and try to earn their help.
When in the simulations, it's an action-platformer.
When you fight the viruses, it's a real time RPG style system.
So, I'm sure you're thinking 'if only we could see it in action, surely it would all make sense.'
Well:

There you have it.
It's, unfortunately, something you just have to dive into to understand it's greatness.
If you're interested in playing it, it's FREE over here:

I recommend it.
