ARKHAM CITY.
Not trying to scare you guys, but seriously: you all should be so happy I am nowhere near you with this fucking thing. I've spent so much time dicking about I leveled up twice before ever going to save Catwoman from Two-Face (which is basically the first mission in the game).

Figured you would play the hell out of that game J, I might get it at some point though I got too many other games right now... I can't keep up! Speaking of games: Skyrim[/u] Really no point in doing a whole review on this since we already know it's awesome, but I will say this. This game on pc... holy crap it crashes A LOT!!! I really don't think I have ever played a game as unstable as Skyrim. I don't know if any of you have had this problem, but I do know looking it up on google, this is a big issue. Even bigger since the recent update or whatever they did. But the game is fun and has sucked in my life completely, here a few screen-shots I took messing around with throwing things over peoples heads, which for some reason really cracks me up: Buckethead i139.photobucket.com/albums/q315/Xerokine/ScreenShot5.jpgKettlehead i139.photobucket.com/albums/q315/Xerokine/ScreenShot2.jpgKing of Fighters XIII[/u] If you played KoF XII at all you might remember that the game finally got a graphical make-over after 10+ years of the old SNK graphics. But that's all they did, the game had no boss, no extra modes, lack of main characters and was just not that fun.. It was as if SNK had time to make all these nice new graphics, but forgot to actually make the game, so they threw some stuff together really quick in hopes that we would be taken by all the nice new animations and less pixelated sprites, but we weren't fooled. In KoF XIII, SNK did something different..planning. They stepped it up to about 34 from 22 or so that were in KoF XII. Characters including all of the classics such as Terry, Kim, Mai, Kyo, Iori and they brought back some that haven't seen much action such as Andy, Robert and even brought Hwa Jai after 20 years. No seriously, this guy was last seen in Fatal Fury which came out in '91! So lets break this down a bit: Story: Yes it does have one. It's your typical, someone unknown started this tournament and we use it to try and end the world kind of thing... not the most amazing story every, but it's a fighting game, what do you expect. It's nice that at the beginning of each new match every character has a customized chat with the opposite opponent. This really adds a feel for them knowing about each other over the years, I really like this touch added. Graphics: Yes they are nice. The animation is smooth, sprites are as good as anything seen in the Guilty Gear series. Backgrounds have a lot going on, it's fun even watching as someone else plays the game to observe what all is happening in some of the backgrounds of various stages. Also in typical SNK style it's like where's Waldo trying to find other game characters hidden throughout the stages. Gameplay/controls: Yes it does play like the old classic SNK games, feels pretty much the same. The characters have been dumbed down a bit, meaning that some moves you might remember in older games are now gone. But it feels like they did what Street Fighter IV did in this sense, put all the moves you need to know and use in and stuck with that. I haven't had any issues with anyone too different at this point, though Iori pushes it pretty far, they did change him quite a bit. They now added EX attacks very similar to the way EX attacks in Street Fighter IV are, basically you get a bar that fills up with a more powerful regular attack. Supers are of course in the game, with regular level supers and more powerful maximum supers. Difficulty: This has a good level of challenge from very easy to insanely difficult. Much like any SNK game the bosses are always set to hard no matter what. Luckily after being defeated, which you will be, you have the choice of increase attack/defense, cpu 1/3 life, and all that good stuff to help give you a chance to beat the boss. Overall this game is a huge improvement over the last, with the included story mode, arcade, mission mode and color editor I feel as if everything that should have been included in the last game is here, and I will have many enjoyable hours playing a new KoF title.

Awesome review of the new KOF, Eric! Really looking forward to playing it more in-depth myself. I remember really liking those before-fight chats with everyone.
I saw a video about that bucket / kettlehead thing from Skyrim too! Especially hilarious because the player had literally robbed a tavern blind except for a lone fork on the bar. Just to test it, they took the kettle off before taking the fork. Not only did the barkeep flip out and come around the counter with a sword, but HE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE ANYTHING ELSE WAS MISSING UNTIL THAT POINT.
Just finished Arkham City this morning: took it on Easy to get a feel for the game. The combo system additions take some getting used to. Love the new 'destroy / disarm' takedown that breaks guns and other weapons to prevent further use (for riot shields, Batman straight up punches the guy through the viewport, then crumples the whole thing against the ground), and the new multi-counter system is invaluable.
A great little wrinkle added to the combat is the idea of Riddler 'informants', who are moles in all the various gangs that know where all the pesky question marks are stashed. They're marked in green, so you have to pick off everyone else before catching them by the throat (or dangling them over a ledge by one leg like in Commando) and shaking them down for info. This leads to some hilarious exchanges, like "Lie to me if you're done eating solid food!" and my favorite:
BATMAN: Talk! I know you work for Riddler! RIDDLER INFORMANT: HOW?! I mean, YES! I'll tell you everything!
EDIT: Have to shout out my favorite new Bat-gadget in the game, the Smoke Pellet. Nothing like popping it in the midst of a gang of crooks and diving silently into the fog, leaving only unconscious bodies when the air clears.

New thing: Haunted: Hell's Reach.
Sorta like Killing Floor if you had the option of Falcon-Punching demons off buildings as well. Pretty damn fun.
Also, playing Terraria again, because a patch just dropped that, like, tripled the amount of gear and enemy types.

Also, Dungeon Defenders. This game has crazy fun multiplayer. Thomas was even surprised by how fun it was after Gary bought him a copy against his will.

Anyone try Serious Sam 3 yet? I haven't put the money down to get the game yet, but I'm expecting it to be good.

It plays just like Serious Sam first and second encounter, but looks really pretty. It's funny too. I say totally pick it up. I will post a proper review when I have played more than 4 hours of it, but it is being neglected right now because SKYRIM.

I got into the beta for Tribes: Ascend. It's fun as hell. It's multiplayer Tribes just as it should be. If I had one complaint, it's that since the game uses the free to play model, every other button in the UI opens a webpage eager to take your money. On the other hand, the free to play model also means that there's incentive to pay. Meaning there's a system of unlocking different classes, and building up XP levels for each one. All in all, I'm enjoying it immensely. Even though it only has 3 CTF maps at the moment.
Also, they gave me an extra beta key. I'm waiting for someone to be both excited and available to play with before I give it out.

So. I just got done playing a game called Void. It's a creation by Digipen students from Singapore. It uses source engine, and time manipulation mechanics. That is, you can create sphere's in the world that project the past within them. So, if the path is blocked, you can return the area to how it was in the past to proceed. It can also be used to manipulate the present. There's a part where a tree is in your way, and you remove it by turning back time, and plucking it out as a sapling. I'm actually a little stunned that source engine from 2006 is capable of such a feat. If I had one complaint about it, it's that it likes to show a cutscene every time you enter a room showing you your objective. As if to say "Over here, stupid." I'm not sure why anyone could put that in a game and say "Yeah, the game is better now." If you want to check it out yourself(which I recommend), it can be found here: www.digipen.edu/?id=1170&proj=23876

I'd be curious to hear some opinions on APB reloaded. I'm having trouble running it at a decent frame rate. Saddening, as I feel like it could be really fun.

Finally got a chance to play E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy. Not what I would call "accessible," but super fun when played with friends.

I was curious about E.Y.E., it looked fun, but really complex.

So. Skyward Sword. I've never had such polarized feelings about a game before.
There are things in this game that are absolutely fucking genius. There are other's that I would go as far as to call "unacceptable." The game does a terrible job as far as pacing, not in how it tells the story, but the gameplay portions. Tutorials, explanations, and exposition are heavy, and constant. Conversations go on 5 times longer than they are necessary. None of it is ever relevant, but it is ALL unskippable. The "Navi" character in the game (named "Fi")is completely unlikable, and thoroughly useless. She will stop you during a boss fight to tell you when your health is low, and stop you to tell you to WALK THROUGH DOORS when you first step into a room. However, whenever you're actually stuck on a puzzle, she doesn't have shit to say. Thank god for gamefaqs.
On the other hand, when the game is on, it's all ahead full. The combat is one of the most satisfying things I've ever done with a controller. This is what Nintendo wanted to do with Twilight Princess when the Wiimote was first invented. Motion plus adds so much immersion to the game, I can honestly think of this game as the first ever "swordplay simulator." This is the technology they needed to make the lightsaber fighting game that we always wanted. Other gameplay elements, such as your gear, feel equally great. You fire your bow by actually pulling the string back with the nunchuck, and releasing the C button. You throw bombs by making an overhead flick with the wiimote. You can also roll them along the ground by making an underhand motion. You use the whip by flicking the wiimote, and pulling back whatever you latched onto. It all just feels great. It feels RIGHT. It's just a shame that the game can't just shut up and let you enjoy it for more than 10 minutes without stopping you.
In conclusion, if Twilight Princess had motion plus support, it would probably be the greatest Zelda game of all time.
